How do you create designs for your wallpaper?
Answered by Alicia, Creative Artworker & Designer at Hovia
'There are many ways we create our wallpapers, and each team member has talents in different techniques and types of design. My speciality is painting, and I paint a lot of floral patterns in particular.'
'Before starting a new project, we do a lot of market research to identify new and growing trends. This helps us inform what colours we use as well as motifs.'
'I’m going for a bright summery palette, here, with lots of texture and a range of complementing flower shapes.'
'For this floral wallpaper project, I’m sticking with watercolours. This will give me the lovely texture and flowy artistic feel I’m after. I’ll then scan in my drawings and create the repeat pattern in Photoshop.'
'Once I've created my seamless pattern, I send it to the production team to print and quality check the design.'
'We always quality-check our designs to make sure it’s perfect. All our production is done in-house, which means we can get our hands on our printed designs super quick!'
'When we're all happy with the final product it'll get uploaded to our website, ready for our customers to transform their homes.'
Are there any interiors or wallpaper trends I shouldn’t miss this year?
Answered by Lauren, Art Director at Hovia
'My number one interior trend you don’t want to miss this year is warm Japandi. It’s a sophisticated yet bold style that builds on the popular Japandi or Scandinese style. It feels modern yet creates a super cosy feeling at home.'
'Barely-there patterns and murals inspired by nature's contours pair perfectly with this warm Japandi style. The organic shapes create that real sense of calm and encourage relaxation. We even designed a collection based on this style.'
I want to create a feature wall in my living room. What kind of wallpaper would be best for that?
Answered by Jess L, Creative Designer at Hovia
'There are many ways to create a feature wall, but here are just a few of my favourite ideas on how to pick the best type of wallpaper for your living room space.'
'We create two types of wall coverings at Hovia: Murals and wallpapers. Murals are ideal for making an impactful feature wall and giving a space some real personality.'
'If your living room wall already has a central feature such as a fireplace or an alcove, then I'd recommend traditional wallpaper. The all-over pattern will wrap seamlessly around any corners or nooks, ensuring that your chosen design can be seen from every angle on your feature wall!'
